Collection Medium:
Light Blue top tube 2.7 mL (Na Citrate)
Minimum:
Full draw of 2.7 mL light blue Sodium Citrate tube.
Delivery Instructions:
Must be hand-delivered to laboratory within 2 hours of collection; specimen cannot be sent using pneumatic tube system.
Testing Schedule:
24 hrs/day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Analytic Time:
2 hours (upon receipt in laboratory)
Reference Range:
Collagen/Epinephrine = 66-169 secs. Collagen/ADP = 67-120 secs.
Comments:
This test needs a separate tube! It CANNOT be done with any other coagulation tests.
Methodology:
Citrated blood is forced through a capillary system to a membrane with a central aperature coated with collagen and either epinephrine or ADP. The time required to obtain full occlusion of the aperture by a platelet plug is the closure time and is reported in seconds.
