UChoose Program                          Healthy Vending Criteria

To be designated as a healthier snack, vending items must meet at least one out of four of the following criteia:

  • 5 grams of fat and less that 30% of calories from fat per serving

  • 100 or fewer calories per serving

  • 15 grams carbohydrates or less per serving

  • 100% juice

  • In addition, 20% of items offered within a vending machine meet the healthy criteria

  • Also, vending machines must include a healthy row or column where healthy items are grouped together.

University vending is managed by Aramark, so look for a check mark by vending items that meet the the Just 4 U criteria. Vending machines that are located in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics are not managed by Aramark, but designate healthy items, as well.
