    Program Scheduling


The dietetic internship is a 44-week program beginning two weeks prior to the start of the University of Iowa academic year.  The 2013-2014 class begins on August 12, 2013 and ends on June 13, 2014.  The dietetic interns complete a series of rotations in management, clinical, and community areas in addition to earning 9 hours of graduate credit in the College of Public Health and Carver College of Medicine.

 

Time Commitment

University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics dietetic internship is a rigorous educational experience.  The 9 hours of graduate study combined with 10 months of clinical experience result in an intensive program that requires study and class time beyond the usual 40-hour work week.

Interns are scheduled for a 40-hour work week including some weekends and holidays. Four personal days are allowed. In addition, one week vacation is scheduled at Christmas/New Year's and one week is scheduled in the spring.

Requests for changes in the weekly work schedule are submitted to the Dietetic Internship Director

Interns are given 4 days of personal leave for illness, funeral, personal time, interviewing, etc.  Any additional time taken must be made up.
