The dietetic internship is a 44-week program beginning
two weeks prior to the start of the University of Iowa
academic year. The 2016-2017 class begins on
August 8, 2016 and ends on June 9, 2017. The
dietetic interns complete a series of rotations in
management, clinical, and community areas in addition to
earning 9 hours of graduate credit in the College of
Public Health and Carver College of Medicine.

During the fall semester, graduate
classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays and supervised
practice is on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The

graduate classes in the late afternoon/early evening.

the second semester.
Dietetic interns typically are not
scheduled for a weekend but may be scheduled on
occasion. Interns are given work days off for
weekend days worked on a one-to-one basis.
Dietetic interns are given four
days of personal leave for illness, funeral, personal
time, interviewing, etc. Personal days must be
approved prior to use (excluding illness or emergency)
through the dietetic internship director and preceptor.
Dietetic interns are
off for the following University Holidays:
Saturday-Monday (Labor Day)
Thursday (Thanksgiving)- Sunday
December 23-January 2 (variations may occur depending on
how the holiday falls)
