Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Collection Medium:

Red top tube 5 mL (Clot Activator)

Minimum:

Preferred Minimum: 1.0 mL serum
Absolute Minimum: 0.3 mL serum

Rejection Criteria:

Specimen types other than serum. Refrigerated or room temperature specimens. Specimens left to clot at refrigerated temperature. Specimens exposed to repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Delivery Instructions:

Deliver to laboratory immediately after collection. Critical frozen.

Turn Around Time:

7-14 days upon receipt at reference laboratory.

Reference Range:

59 percent normal or greater

Interpretive Data:

This test is intended for screening of functional activity of the alternative pathway of the complement system. Abnormal test results can be due to hereditary absence or acquired functional defect in the activity of any of the individual components of the alternative pathway. If test result is abnormal, order specific tests for evaluation of individual components of alternative pathway, including Complement Factor B and Complement Component 3.
