Specimen Instructions:

Allow serum to sit for 15-20 minutes at room temperature for proper clot formation. Centrifuge and separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection.

Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.

Collection Medium:

Red top tube 5 mL (Clot Activator)

Minimum:

Prepferred Minimum: 1 mL serum in red top tube
Absolute Minimum: 0.3 mL serum in red top tube

Rejection Criteria:

Plasma. Grossly hemolyzed or lipemic specimens.

Turn Around Time:

1-2 days upon receipt at reference laboratory

Reference Range:

Less than or equal to 1.75 IU/L

Comments:

To confirm diagnosis of Graves' disease, Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglobulin (LAB4165) is generally the preferred test.
