Specimen Instructions:
Record draw time.

All collection tubes need to be processed within six hours of 
collection.  If specimens cannot reach the laboratory at University of 
Iowa Hospitals and Clinics within the six hours, process as follows:

Pink or lavender top tubes:
Centrifuge for 20 minutes at 800-1600 x g.  Aseptically enter the tube
and aliquot into sterile tubes.  Transport to the laboratory on ice 
within 24 hours.

Minimum:
ONE 6 mL whole blood in a Pink top tube or TWO 3 mL whole blood in lavender top tubes. HEV molecular testing cannot be added onto a previously opened Vacutainer® tube. Testing requires a dedicated collection tube.
Delivery Instructions:
Deliver to laboratory immediately after collection.

0800-1700 Testing offered once per week excluding weekends and University holidays.

Results Reported: Negative, Positive, Indeterminate, Insufficient.
Comments:
The performance characteristics of this test were determined by the University of Iowa Microbiology and Molecular Pathology Laboratory. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA has determined that such clearance or approval is not necessary. This test is for clinical purposes. It should not be regarded as investigational or for research. The laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) as qualified to perform high complexity clinical laboratory testing.
