Collection Medium:
Heparinized syringe or Green top tube (Na Heparin)
Minimum:
0.5 mL in Lithium/Sodium Heparin syringes or Sodium Heparin Vacutainer® tube
Delivery Instructions:
Deliver to laboratory immediately after collection. If > 30 minutes, place on ice.
Testing Schedule:
24 hrs/day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Turn Around Time:
10 minutes (upon receipt in laboratory)
Reference Range:
0.5 - 2.0 mmol/L (16 years and older)
0.5 - 2.2 mmol/L (less than 16 years old)

Critical value: >5.0 mmol/L
Comments:
Can be ordered with blood gases (0.5 mL blood required); all needles must be removed from the syringe before delivery.
