Minimum:

1 mL serum, plasma, or CSF, in a sterile container.

Absolute Adult Minimum:  0.25 mL serum, plasma, or CSF, in a sterile 
container.

Pediatric Minimum:  0.25 mL serum, plasma, or CSF, in a sterile 
container.

Rejection Criteria:

Whole blood, heparinzed specimens

Delivery Instructions:

Submit specimen to laboratory as soon as possible after collection.

Analytic Time:

1 week

Reference Range:

390-39,000,000 EBV DNA copies/mL

Interpretive Data:

A negative result (less than 390 copies/mL or less than 2.6 log 
copies/mL) does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the 
patient specimen, or EBV DNA nucleic acid in concentrations below the 
level of detection of the assay.  Inhibition may also lead to 
underestimation of viral quantitation.
