Limitations:
EDTA is an interfering substance; therefore blood separated in an EDTA 
tube is an unacceptable sample. Heparinized blood, also called plasma, 
is acceptable.

Heterophile antibodies and rheumatoid factor can cause positive 
interference.

Cross reactions due to closely related antigenic epitopes are seen in 
patients with histoplasmosis, paracoccidioidomycosis, and 
penicilliosis.  Rare cross reactions have been seen in patients with 
aspergillosis and cryptococcosis.
