| Light Green top tube (Lithium Heparin) |
Minimum:
Preferred Minimum: 1 mL lithium plasma in an amber transport tube
(transport tubes are located in Specimen Control)
Rejection Criteria:
Any specimens other than heparinized plasma or serum. Non-frozen
specimens. Serum separator tubes. Specimens collected in EDTA yield a
higher pyridoxal 5'-phosphate concentration; therefore, EDTA is not
acceptable. Hemolyzed specimens.
Delivery Instructions:
Wrap specimen in aluminum foil to protect from light.
Deliver to laboratory immediately after collection.Specimen
Instructions:
Suggested: Collect the specimen after an overnight fast.
Analytic Time:
4 working days upon receipt at reference laboratory
Reference Range:
20-125 nmol/L
Interpretive Data:
Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate measured in a specimen collected following an 8
hour or overnight fast accurately indicates vitamin B6 nutritional
status. Non-fasting specimen concentration reflects recent vitamin
intake.
Note: The biologically active form of vitamin B6, pyridoxal 5- phosphate, is measured in this assay.
