Sample must be processed and frozen within 2 hours of blood draw.
Collection Medium:
Red top tube 5 mL (Clot Activator)
Minimum:
Preferred minimum: 1 mL serum
Rejection Criteria:
Plasma is not accepted. Non-frozen specimen. Specimens exposed to repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Specimens left to clot at refrigerated temperature.
Delivery Instructions:
Deliver to laboratory immediately after collection. Critical frozen.
Turn Around Time:
5-10 days upon receipt at reference laboratory.
Reference Range:
1.6-4.0 mg/dL
Interpretive Data:
Decreased C2 levels may be associated with increased susceptibility to infection (especially pneumococcal infections), systemic lupus erythematosus-like disease, rashes, arthritis, nephritis, and with C1- Esterase deficiency. Increased C2 levels are associated with the acute phase response.
