Minimum:

Adult - Peripheral Blood: 10 mL; Bone Marrow: 2-4 mL

 

Pediatric - Peripheral Blood: 2-5 mL; Bone Marrow: 2-5 mL

 

CSF - Volume required is cell count dependent. Body fluid specimens containing small number of leukocytes may not be adequate for immunophenotyping. Provide as much CSF specimen as possible in the original CSF collection tube(s).

Testing Schedule:

Samples will be processed during the hours of 0800–1600 daily. Samples that arrive on weekends or holidays will be triaged and processed during the next business day. For additional services, contact Clinical Pathology Resident on-call at pager #3404.

Please print, complete and submit the Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) along with the Comprehensive Hematopathology Requisition before shipping the specimen. Include pertinent clinical information on the requisition.

 

Antibodies routinely included are: CD2, CD3, CD4, CD5, CD7, CD8, CD10, CD11B, CD13, CD14, CD15, CD16, CD19, CD20, CD22, CD33, CD34, CD36, CD38, CD45, CD56, CD64, CD71, CD117, CD123, HLA-DR, Kappa, Lambda.

 

Additional antibodies are added as necessary for diagnosis after morphologic examination. The pathologist will provide an interpretative report.

Test Limitations:

Recent corticosteroid or chemotherapy may invalidate result.

Sample Processing:
Relevant clinical information must be submitted with specimen in order to provide correct interpretation of test results.
Specimen should be collected and packaged as close to shipping time as possible.
Sample Storage:
Room Temperature.
Transport Instructions:
Place labeled specimen into zip-lock type biohazard bag; seal bag.
Place requisition into outside pocket of bag.
Ship at room temperature.
Recommend early AM overnight shipping or equivalent if not on courier service.
