Minimum:
Obtain 3 cc of first-draw aspirate in a bone marrow media tube available from our lab or a green-top Vacutainer® with sodium heparin. Send the specimen at room temperature. Label tube with patient name and medical record number. (Do NOT use lithium heparin green-top Vacutainer®). DO NOT FREEZE OR CENTRIFUGE THE SPECIMEN.
Testing Schedule:
Specimens accepted in the lab Monday-Friday, 0800-1700.
Turn Around Time:
Preliminary report is generally given within 24-48 hours in most cases. If you want preliminary results over the weekend (or holiday) on specimens received on Friday, please notify the lab. Otherwise, preliminary results are given on Monday. Allow two weeks for final results.

The specimen can be processed to rule out both acquired chromosomal abnormalities (in hematological malignancies) as well as constitutional abnormalities.
