Call laboratory for additional acceptable specimen collection containers.
Minimum:
24 hr urine; no preservative.  Collection other than 24 hr will 
not be calculated for mg/24 hr.
Testing Schedule:
24 hrs/day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Turn Around Time:
3 hours (upon receipt in laboratory)
Reference Range:
Due to variations in urinary calcium that vary in part based on 
diet, no reference range used in Epic.

24-Hour urinary calcium concentrations vary with amount of calcium in 
diet.
  Calcium-free diet: 5-40 mg Ca/day in urine
  Low to average calcium intake (up to 800 mg/day): 50-300 mg Ca/day
     in urine
  High calcium diet (800 mg/day or more): > 250 mg Ca/day in 
urine

Instructions:
Record dates and time of collection on requisition.
Sample Processing:
Submit in leak-proof container.
Label transport tube with two patient identifiers, date and time of collection.
Sample Storage:
Room Temperature.
Transport Instructions:
Ship at room temperature or refrigerate.
Place requisition in bag, seal bag, and tape securely to (urine) container.
