Rejection Criteria:

Gastric specimens, swabs or tissue. Specimens in media or preservatives.

Turn Around Time:

1-2 days upon receipt of specimen at ARUP reference laboratory

Test Limitations:

Patient preparation: To avoid false negative results, no antibiotics, proton pump inhibitors, or a bismuth preparation should be administered to patient for 14 days prior to specimen collection.

Methodology:

Qualitative Enzyme Immunoassay

Instructions:

Transfer 5g (1g minimum) stool to a labeled sterile screw cap container (urine cup). Store and send specimen frozen. Note: Specimen is stable for ONLY 2 hours at room temperature.

Sample Storage:
Store frozen.
Transport Instructions:
Place labeled specimen into zip-lock type biohazard bag; seal bag.
Place completed laboratory requisition (or packing list) into outside pocket of bag.
Transport in cooler with refrigerated coolant packs.
