Minimum:
Specimen obtained aseptically according to your protocol. DO NOT
SEND INTACT FETUS. Send only tissue specimen to the lab (chorionic
villi - first choice; skin, diaphragm, chorion). Multiple tissue
sources are acceptable. DO NOT PUT SPECIMEN IN ALCOHOL OR FORMALIN
OR FREEZE. Label tube with patient name and medical record number.
Testing Schedule:
Specimens accepted in the lab Monday-Friday, 0800-1700.
Turn Around Time:
Allow 3-6 weeks for final results.

Instructions:
For transport media, use Ham's F-10, RPMI or MEM. As a backup,
Ringers lactate solution can be used in place of media. Do not put
specimen in alcohol or formalin. Do not freeze or flame or
refrigerate. If a specimen is collected over the weekend, please
call (319) 356-1616 and ask the operator to page the cytogenetics
on-call staff at pager #5525. Provide details of clinical
information and family history (if applicable).
