Changes in Toxoplasma, Rubella, and Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgG Testing Due to Reagent Supply Issues, Monday, September 9th, 2024
Nationwide unavailability of reagents used for current in-house testing at the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center University Campus core clinical laboratory has necessitated a change to an alternative testing platform for the following tests:
TOXOPLASMA ANTIBODY, IGG [LAB2423]
RUBELLA ANTIBODY, IGG [LAB4835]
CYTOMEGALOVIRUS (CMV) ANTIBODY, IGG [LAB937]
The following are impacts of this issue:
- CMV IgG will be reported qualitatively only (i.e., Negative, Equivocal, Positive).
- Rubella IgG of 10 IU/mL or greater will be reported as Positive, less than 10 IU/mL will be reported as Negative.
- Toxoplasma IgG of 3 IU/mL or greater will be reported as Positive, 1 – 2 IU/mL will be reported as Equivocal, less than 1 IU/mL will be reported as Negative.
Since results from different vendor assays cannot be used interchangeably, results from new testing will appear on a different line in EPIC. The EPIC changes will go into effect on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024. Testing will be delayed until that date. If results are needed urgently before this time, please call the laboratory at 356-3527.
Sample type (Light Green PST Vacutainer) and turnaround time (within 3 hours of specimen receipt) will remain unchanged. The IgM assays for toxoplasma, rubella, and CMV are not impacted by these changes.
