Mycoplasma PCR
On Tuesday, December 4th, 2024, Mycoplasma PCR specimens will be mailed out for testing. Extraordinary demand and the vendors inability to supply the kits has led to this switch.
For testing Mycoplasma pneumoniae PCR (LAB4825) submit one of the following: Nasopharyngeal Swab in Viral Transport Media (Stores #33595, 1mL CSF in sterile container, 2mL of Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), nasal wash, sputum, tracheal aspirate, or pleural fluid in sterile leak-proof container.
What you should know about Mycoplasma pneumoniae:
- Infections have been increasing since May 2024 and are currently common. https://www.cdc.gov/mycoplasma/index.html
- Please send specimens for testing Mycoplasma pneumoniae PCR (LAB4825) directly to Specimen Control ASAP.
