Mycoplasma and Respiratory Panel Testing Update
Mycoplasma PCR
On Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, Mycoplasma PCR specimens and Respiratory Panel testing will be resumed in the Microbiology Lab at MCU. The supply of kits for testing Mycoplasma pneumoniae PCR (LAB4825) and the “respiratory pathogen panel” (LAB9255) are now available, ending the need to mail out specimens for testing.
What you should know about Mycoplasma pneumoniae:
- Infections have been increasing since May 2024 and are currently common. https://www.cdc.gov/mycoplasma/index.html
- Please follow the Mycoplasma pneumoniae PCR (LAB4825) protocol for sample collection by collecting one oral ESwab (Stores #74541).
- Please send specimens for testing Mycoplasma pneumoniae PCR (LAB4825) directly to the Microbiology Laboratory at UIHC.
Respiratory Panel Testing
- The shortage of respiratory viral PCR panels (Respiratory Pathogen Panel, LAB8656) has been resolved. Panel testing is now available.
