Delays in Pathology Mailout Tests Due to Severe Weather Impacting Delivery Services Throughout the Nation, Today, Wednesday, February 17, 2021

Due to the severe weather affecting the country, pathology mailout testing may be delayed due to impacts on air delivery and courier services. A main FedEx shipping hub in Memphis, TN has suspended flights. Some shipments from earlier in the week have been delayed in transit, in some cases leading to loss of specimen viability.

Where possible, samples will be stabilized for later shipment. If testing needs to be cancelled due to limited specimen viability or loss of specimens during transit, Pathology Mailouts will contact the ordering clinical service. Limited local testing is available for CMV, EBV and influenza PCR and samples are being retrieved where possible to issue an in-house result.
