Changes in Immunosuppressant Testing

Effective today, September 22nd, 2020, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics core laboratory will change assays for Tacrolimus Drug Level (LAB908) from Abbott to Roche Diagnostics.

Tacrolimus results on the Roche assay will not trend on the same line as Abbott tacrolimus results in EPIC Results Review.

The testing schedule will not change – samples must be received in the laboratory by 9:00 for results at 12:00.

In addition, the generic therapeutic ranges for all immunosuppressants (tacrolimus, cyclosporine, sirolimus, everolimus) will be removed from EPIC going forward. The therapeutic range appropriate for a given individual depends on many factors, including type of organ transplanted, treatment phase, and therapeutic approach, among others. These changes have been reviewed by and supported by transplant and pharmacy teams involved with use of immunosuppressants.
