Changes in Heparin and Enoxaparin Assays

Effective Tuesday, March 5th, 2019 at 10:00 am, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics core laboratory will change reagent formulations for the Heparin Assay (LAB317) and Enoxaparin Assay (LAB316).

The new reagent formulation no longer supplements the reaction with antithrombin. If a patient does not show the expected anticoagulation response to heparin or enoxaparin, testing for Antithrombin Deficiency (LAB1009) could be considered.

The Heparin Nomograms and PTT (LAB1117) reference range will remain unchanged per review by the Anticoagulation Subcommittee.
