Beginning today, February 19th, 2016, a Zika virus serology test will be available to order in Epic ("Zika virus serology test", EPIC order LAB8423).

Because this test is performed at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), prior authorization for the test and evaluation of individual cases is required and can be obtained by calling the Iowa Department of Public Health at 800-362-2736.

Please note that telephone calls, paperwork, and additional patient history are necessary to obtain testing. Extra time should be set aside when scheduling clinic visits or other clinical workflow. Instructions and information necessary to be included with the Epic order can be found within the order itself.
