Effective today, October 1, 2014, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics core clinical chemistry laboratory will be performing urine myoglobin assay in-house.  This was previously sent out to reference laboratory.

Reference Range	< 21 ng/mL
Test availability	24 hours/day, 7 days a week (including holidays)
Turnaround Time	1 hour or less upon receipt in the laboratory
Result Parameters	Results up to 10,000 ng/mL may be seen with mild muscle injury, strenuous exercise, and myocardial infarction.  Patients with urine myoglobin exceeding 10,000 ng/mL are at risk of acute renal failure.  Renal toxicity depends on multiple factors such as renal perfusion rate and degree of urine acidity.  Elevated urine excretion of myoglobin is not specific for a clinical disorder.
