EBV Heterophile (Monospot) Testing
Effective Monday, February 25, 2013, there will be changes to Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) testing. The main change is to introduce an EBV Heterophile (‘Monospot’) test specifically for the Iowa River Landing (IRL) laboratory. This testing will be given a different Epic orderable to distinguish from the testing performed in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics core clinical chemistry laboratory.
Test name | Epic # | Where performed | Specimen |
HETEROPHILE ANTIBODY (MONOSPOT) IRL ONLY | LAB327 | IRL Lab | Red top |
EBV HETEROPHILE AB (MONOSPOT) | LAB7831 | Core lab | Red top |
For patients seen at IRL or who will have blood drawn at IRL, the LAB327 order should be used.
Questions should be directed to Matthew Krasowski, MD, PhD, medical director of the Clinical Chemistry and Iowa River Landing Laboratories (384-9380, matthew-krasowski@uiowa.edu).
