Re-organization of Epic Results Review Folders

Effective Tuesday, February 7, 2012, there will be a re-organization of Results Review folders for laboratory test results in Epic. The purpose of these re-organizations is to eliminate miscellaneous categories like "Lab Tests-Others" and "Mailouts-Additional Testing" and also to consolidate folders to reduce visual clutter. This process incorporated extensive input from Epic users.

Some of the most significant changes are the following:

(1) All infectious disease results (cultures, serologies, etc.) are in categories based on organism type:
      INFECTION-BACTERIA
      INFECTION-FUNGI/PARASITES
      INFECTION-HIV/STDS
INFECTION-SURVEILLANCE [e.g., air cultures, surface swabs in certain inpatient units]
      INFECTION-VIRUSES

(2) Endocrinology testing is consolidated into a set of folders:
      ENDOCRINE-ADRENAL
      ENDOCRINE-BONE/CALC/PTH
      ENDOCRINE-GLUCOSE/INSULIN
      ENDOCRINE-HYPOTHAL/PITUIT
      ENDOCRINE-NEUROENDOCRINE
      ENDOCRINE-REPRODUCTIVE
      ENDOCRINE-THYROID

(3) All drug of abuse testing is now consolidated into two folders:
      DRUG OF ABUSE, CONFIRM
      DRUG OF ABUSE, SCREENING

(4) All therapeutic drug monitoring (antibiotic levels, immunosuppressives, anti-epileptics) is consolidated into a single folder:
      THER DRUG MONITORING

Complete lists of the major changes are summarized in Tables 1 and 2.

Obviously, no system of organization is perfect but it is hoped that these changes improve accessing results.

Lastly, this re-organization does not affect tests ordered as "MISCELLANEOUS TEST" (Epic # LAB3621) or for results in the Media tab (e.g., scanned results).
