Changes in Other Fluids Laboratory Tests

Effective Tuesday May 31, 2011, there will be changes implemented in Epic to facilitate easier ordering and results access to chemistry and hematology tests ordered on body fluids other than blood, urine, or cerebrospinal fluid.  The major changes are to have a drop-down menu for the body fluid type in Epic and then a separate result line in Result Review that indicates the body fluid type.  Currently, the body fluid is only present as a footnote visible in Chart Review.  This can lead to confusion in results viewing, especially for patients that have tests ordered on multiple body fluid types.  There is an option to manually enter the fluid type if it is not one of the six types currently built.  The body fluid types and laboratory tests involved are listed in Tables 1 and 2 below.

These tests in general do not have established reference ranges and a footnote to that effect is appended to results.  Screenshots in Epic of what the changes look like.
