Changes in Crystal Analysis

Beginning on August 18, 2011 the Hematology Laboratory will begin offering Synovial Fluid Crystal Analysis (Epic LAB7525). Testing will be done by polarization microscopy for both monosodium urate (MSU) and calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate (CPPD) crystals. Results will be available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week with a turn-around time of 3 hours upon receipt in the laboratory. Minimum specimen requirement is several drops but 1 mL is preferred. The sample may be sent in an EDTA (Lavender top) tube.

Questions should be directed to Nancy Rosenthal, MD, Director of the Hematology Laboratory (4-8751 or pager 7057).
