Beginning December 1, 2011, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Microbiology Laboratory will be staffed 24/7. The tests listed below will make up the third shift test menu, and thus these tests will now be offered 24 hours a day. However, this menu will continue to expand over time. Please follow future broadcasts and refer to the Pathology Handbook for updates to this 24/7 menu.

• Malaria antigen testing
• STAT gram stains
• Bacterial culture set-up (results will be available between 7AM and 5PM)
• MRSA PCR
• C. difficile PCR
• Enterovirus PCR
• Cryptococcal antigen testing
• Group B antigen testing
• Legionella antigen testing
• Positive blood culture gram staining and reporting

***Please note that starting December 1, 2011, all specimens for microbiology and molecular pathology testing should be either hand delivered to the Microbiology Laboratory on 6th Floor Boyd Tower or sent by tube to Station 160, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.***
