Procainamide and N-acetylprocainamide (NAPA) Levels to Become Mailout Tests

In order to conserve resources during these difficult financial times, certain low volume drug levels will no longer be performed in the Pathology laboratories but will be sent to a reference laboratory. Beginning 10/1/2009, serum/plasma levels for procainamide and its metabolite N-acetylprocainamide (NAPA) will be performed at a reference lab. This may result in longer turnaround times for these levels. The test at the reference laboratory includes measurement of both procainamide and NAPA. Therefore, separate individual orders for procainamide and NAPA levels will not be necessary.

On October 1, 2009, the specimen requirements will change to: Questions can be directed to Matthew Krasowski M.D., Ph.D. (Medical Director, Clinical Chemistry Laboratory) at 384-9380.
