New Sample Requirement for HIV Testing

Effective August 26, 2008, the test methodology for Human Immunodeficiency Virus Point of Care (HIVPOC) testing has changed.

The HIV-1/2 Antibody Test is a manually performed, visually read immunoassay for the qualitative detection of antibodies to HIV-1/2.

A full draw EDTA lavender top tube is the preferred collection medium. The following tubes are unacceptable: serum, SST gel or PST gel. Please refer to the HIV-1/2 Antibody (Rapid) test entry in the Laboratory Services Handbook or contact Mary Capper at 356-3530 with questions.
