Change in Sample Requirement for HIV Testing

Effective October 27, 2008, the sample requirement for Human Immunodeficiency Virus Point of Care (HIV1/2POC) testing has changed.

The HIV-1/2 Antibody Test is a manually performed, visually read immunoassay for the qualitative detection of antibodies to HIV-1/2.

A full draw PST green top tube is the preferred collection medium. The following tubes are unacceptable: serum, SST gel or sodium heparin plasma (dark green). NOTE: sample requirements for the HIV1/2 ELISA remain unchanged
