The Cytomegalovirus (CMV) PCR quantitative assay is now being offered daily Monday through Friday in the Molecular Pathology Laboratory. Lavender top EDTA tubes received by the Molecular Pathology Laboratory by 1:00 p.m. are tested that day and in most cases resulted late afternoon the same day. Immediate delivery to the laboratory is preferred. However, specimens stored at 4°C will be accepted up to 72 hours after collection.

The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory will discontinue the use of the CMV pp65 antigenemia testing after September 29, 2006. The CMV quantitative PCR assay will be performed on specimens submitted with an order for CMV pp65 antigenemia testing after September 29, 2006.
