Collection Tube Requirement Change for HIV PCR Analysis
This notice pertains to blood specimens for HIV analysis in the UIHC Molecular Pathology Laboratory using either the standard or ultrasensitive PCR assay. Based on a very recent announcement from the assay manufacturer, Roche, use of white-topped vacutainer tubes (B-D Vacutainer PPT tubes) should be avoided. All specimens for HIV PCR analysis should be submitted in either yellow-topped or lavender- topped vacutainer tubes. We will be requesting re-draws on specimens currently in process that were drawn with the inappropriate tube type.
Additional information concerning HIV Viral Load by PCR is available in the Pathology Laboratory Services Handbook.
