Blood Culture Bottle Breakage

Effective May 24, 2004 the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory changed blood culture instrumentation.  The new instrument uses glass blood culture bottles.  It is possible to send these glass blood culture bottles through the pneumatic tube system.  However, it is extremely important that the bottles are in ziplock bags and then placed between two pieces of foam before sending through the tube system.  Without the foam liners the bottles often break in transit.  Please contact Wanita Howard or Janet Croco (6-2591) in the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory with any questions.
