Change in Reference Laboratory

The Department of Pathology has changed the referral laboratory to which the tests below are being submitted. This change has been necessitated by the very real possibility that Specialty Laboratories, Inc., may soon lose CLIA licensure as a result of an ongoing dispute with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS, formerly known as HCFA). The tests are now being sent to Associated Regional and University Pathologists Laboratories, Inc. (ARUP) in Salt Lake City, UT. UIHC has had a relationship with ARUP for approximately 15 years. ARUP is a comprehensive referral laboratory with multiple licenses and accreditations. In addition, UIHC has a computer interface with ARUP, which allows for the electronic transmission of orders and results. This interface provides greater efficiency and accuracy than manually entered orders and results.
