Thyroid Peroxidase Autoantibodies (anti-TPO)

Beginning Tuesday, November 13, the clinical laboratories of the Department of Pathology will offer a new test for Thyroid Peroxidase Autoantibodies (anti-TPO). This test will replace the Thyrocellular Antibody (Microsomal Assay). The new test is a quantitative automated, chemiluminescence immunoassay for anti-TPO. A serum result greater than 2 IU/ml (WHO 66/387) is considered positive for the presence of anti-TPO. A 5 ml (adult) or 2 ml (pediatric) red top collection tube is necessary for assay.

The new anti-TPO test will be available on Tuesday and Thursday of each week. Samples that arrive by 8:00 a.m. on these days will have results reported on the same day. The charge for this test is $60. Please order this test on an A1a Pathology Doctor’s Order requisition. Please write on the bottom of the form under "other test requests".

Questions concerning this assay may be directed to Ronald Feld (356-1759) or George Johnson (356-1805, beeper 4135).
