New Laboratory Requisition

The new laboratory requisition dated 1-00 has a change in the ordering of Urinalysis specimens. A Urinalysis Only can be ordered and a microscopic examination will not be done. A UA and Microscopic if Dipstick Abnormal can be ordered and a microscopic examination will be done if protein, blood, leukocyte esterase or nitrate is positive on the dipstick examination. This is a good screening method since significant findings are very rarely found on the microscopic examination if the dipstick is negative. If for some reason you would like a microscopic examination done regardless of the results of the dipstick, then you may write this on the bottom of the requisition under Additional Testing Required and a microscopic examination will be done. If you have any questions, you may contact Rose Meyer, Section Manager of Hematology at extension 6-0437.
