Changes in urinalysis reporting at University Campus, Iowa River Landing, and North Dodge laboratories, Thursday, April 4, 2024
On Thursday, April 4th, the Department of Pathology’s Laboratories at UIHC University Campus (Core Laboratory), Iowa River Landing, and North Dodge will standardize reporting of microscopic urinalysis testing by instituting the following minor changes:
- Urine Epithelial Cells change from quantitative report per low-powered field (LPF) to quantitative report per high-powered field (HPF)
- Urine Casts change from quantitative to qualitative report
- Urine Crystals change from quantitative to qualitative report
These changes affect URINE MICROSCOPIC [LAB1164] and URINALYSIS WITH REFLEXED CULTURE [LAB8379] orders, though there are no changes to how culture is reflexed from initial urinalysis testing.
