Changes in TEG Testing Going Into Effect Tuesday, April 22, 2025
Effective Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 9:00 thromboelastograph (TEG) testing at the Medical Center University clinical laboratory will be updated to the TEG 6s technology. A single orderable – THROMBOELASTOGRAPH (TEG AND TEGH) [LAB9533] – will replace previous orders of THROMBOELASTOGRAPH (TEG) [LAB5831] and HEPARINASE THROMBOELASTOGRAPH [LAB5833]. Sample type (Light Blue Top Sodium Citrate) and turnaround times (within 2 hours of specimen receipt) will remain unchanged. The new remote viewer can be launched using the TEG Manager software icon located on Citrix.
In addition, a new test, PLATELET MAPPING, BLOOD [LAB9534], will be available for platelet function assessment in the context of anti-platelet therapy (i.e., aspirin, P2Y12 inhibitors). The required sample type is a Dark Green Top Sodium Heparin tube, which cannot be shared with other tests, and results will be reported within 2 hours of specimen receipt in the laboratory.
Our Haemonetics clinical team will be on site (Anesthesia Sim Center – JCP 6452) to support education and case coverage from April 22 – 25. Please reach out to Jack Kugler (john.kugler@haemonetics.com) or Tyler Thorp (tyler.thorp@haemonetics.com) with any questions related to TEG training.
Any other questions should be directed to Anna Merrill, PhD (678-8400, anna-merrill@uiowa.edu).
