Specimen Instructions:
High levels of ascorbic acid interfere with the fructosamine assay. Patients should abstain from ascorbic acid supplements for a minimum of 24 hours prior to sample collection.
Collection Medium:
Red top tube 5 mL (Clot Activator)
Minimum:
Preferred Minimum: 0.5 mL serum
Absolute Minimum: 0.3 mL serum
Rejection Criteria:
Hemolyzed specimens (may cause falsely elevated results).
Turn Around Time:
24 hours upon receipt at reference laboratory (upon receipt in laboratory)
Reference Range:
Nondiabetic: 205-285 μmol/L
Interpretive Data:
Variations in levels of serum proteins (albumin and immunoglobulins) may affect fructosamine results.
Comments:
Hemolysis may cause falsely elevated results. Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature before centrifuging.
