Specimen Instructions:

Prior to collection, the patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour and should not have cleansed the genital area (female patient) or the tip of the penis (male patient).

Collection Medium:

Yellow top round bottom tube (no additive)

Minimum:

1 mL urine

Rejection Criteria:

Specimen not received within 24 hours of collection. Gray top C&S tubes will be rejected for Trichomonas PCR.

Testing Schedule:

24 hrs/day, 7 days a week, including holidays.

Turn Around Time:

2 hours (upon receipt in laboratory) 2 – 5 days upon receipt at reference laboratory

Interpretive Data:

A negative result does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or test-specific nucleic acid in concentrations below the level of detection by this test. This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. This test was performed in a CLIA certified laboratory and is intended for clinical purposes.
