Label Mnemonic: CMVAVR
Epic code: LAB8741
Downtime form: A-1a Doctor/Provider Orders - Pathology Core and Specialty Care Nursery
Commercial Mailout Laboratory
6240-8 RCP
356-8593
Specimen(s):
Plasma
Collection Medium:
Pink top tube 6 mL (K2-EDTA)
Minimum:
Please submit most recent viral load and test date, if available.

Preferred Minimum: 3 mL EDTA plasma
Absolute Minimum: 1.5 mL EDTA plasma
Rejection Criteria:
Heparinized specimens.
Turn Around Time:
2-3 days upon receipt at reference laboratory
Interpretive Data:
Codons 457-630 of the UL97 gene and codons 393-1000 of the UL54 gene are sequenced. Mutations associated with resistance to ganciclovir, cidofovir, and foscarnet are reported. Mutations in viral sub-populations below 20 percent of total may not be detected.

The results are not intended to be used as the sole means for clinical diagnosis or patient management decisions.
Comments:
This test determines antiviral drug resistance to cidofovir, foscarnet sodium, and ganciclovir.

Note: This test may be unsuccessful if the plasma CMV DNA viral load is less than 1,500 CMV DNA copies per mL of plasma.
Methodology:
Polymerase Chain Reaction/Sequencing
CPT Code:
