Interpretive Data:
IgM cold-reactive autoagglutinins associated with immune hemolysis usually react at temperatures greater than or equal to 30°C and may have a titer of greater than or equal to 1000 when tested at 4°C. In-vitro thermal amplitude studies can be performed to predict the likelihood of in-vivo hemolysis. The Thermal Amplitude Study is used to determine the highest temperature that the autoagglutinins react (specimen is tested at 37°C,
30°C, 20-24°C, and 1-6°C), the titer of the antibody at each temperature and the identity of the antibody.
Contact Blood Bank prior to sample collection to obtain an insulated sample transport container. Collect in TWO properly labeled 6 mL pink stopper EDTA tubes. Place the samples in the insulated transport container (37°C) and deliver to Blood Bank ASAP. All Blood Bank samples must be scanned in Epic.

If the only concern is for antibodies that react at 4°C, a Cold Agglutinin Titer (LAB4344) should be ordered.
