Minimum:
5 g random stool in a clean, leak-proof container.
Absolute Minimum: 1 g random stool
Rejection Criteria:
Samples preservatives other than Cary-Blair.
Delivery Instructions:
Submit specimen to laboratory as soon as possible after collection. Transfer to sterile, screw cap transport container and freeze. Store and send frozen.
Testing Schedule:
24 hrs/day, 7 days a week, including holidays.
Turn Around Time:
1-2 days upon receipt at reference laboratory

Interpretive Data:
A positive result is indicative of the presence of lactoferrin, a marker for fecal leukocytes. A negative result does not exclude the presence of intestinal inflammation.
Comments:
Do not use to diagnose inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS); may be used for monitoring IBD activity.
