Need to draw "Normal Control" to send with specimen.

Include a control specimen drawn at the same time from a normal, unrelated, non-smoking individual: draw blood in a green-top (heparin) tube(s), and send 5.0 mL fresh heparinized whole blood to other containers. Label clearly on outermost label NORMAL CONTROL. Rubber band patient specimen and control vial together.

> or =12 months: 24-30 mm Hg

Reference values have not been established for patients who are <12 months of age.
Interpretive Data:
Normal: p50=24 to 30 mm Hg (with sigmoidal oxygen dissociation curve)
Comments:
Cautions: To ensure valid results, the specimen must be < or =72 hours old.

Useful For: Identifying hemoglobin variants associated with polycythemia or cyanotic and hypoxic disorders.
