No established reference range for random urine creatinine measurement. See "Comments" for discussion of urine protein/creatinine ratio.
No established reference range for random urine creatinine measurement. See "Comments" for discussion of urine protein/creatinine ratio.
Comments:
The urine protein/creatinine ratio is automatically calculated if a urine protein and urine creatinine are ordered on the same specimen. The urine protein/creatinine ratio allows for an estimation of proteinuria based on a single random urine collection. A 24 hour urine protein determination remains the recommended true measure of proteinuria. The reference range for the urine protein/creatinine ratio is < 0.2 for 2 years or older. Reference range for the ratio is not established for children less than 2 years old. References: Morgenstern BZ, Butini L, Wollan P, et al. Test
Limitations:
Contamination of urine with menstrual blood, prostatic secretions, or
semen may result in increased urine protein levels. Vigorous exercise
in healthy individuals may result in increased urine protein levels.
Intra individual variability in creatinine clearance can be due to
diet
(e.g., amount of ingested meat) and total skeletal muscle mass.
