Specimen Instructions:
Record draw time. All collection tubes need to be processed within 24 hours of collection. If specimens cannot reach the Microbiology laboratory at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics within the 24 hours, process as follows: Centrifuge for 20 minutes at 800-1600 x g. Aseptically enter the tube and aliquot into sterile tubes. Transport to the laboratory on ice with 24 hours.
Collection Medium:
Pink top tube 6 mL (K2-EDTA)
One full pink top tube (EDTA). Note: If HCV Quantitation is also requested, please obtain a second full pink top tube. Sample tube must remain sterile. HCV molecular testing cannot be added onto a previously opened Vacutainer® tube. Testing requires a dedicated collection tube. All collection tubes need to be processed within 24 hours of collection.
Delivery Instructions:
Deliver to laboratory immediately after collection.

The performance characteristics of this test were determined by the University of Iowa Microbiology and Molecular Pathology Laboratory. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA has determined that such clearance or approval is not necessary. This test is for clinical purposes. It should not be regarded as investigational or for research. The laboratory is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) as qualified to perform high complexity clinical laboratory testing.
PCR amplification followed by DNA sequencing.
