On Call Responsibilities
DFM Resident In-Patient Services
Protocol

Night senior: Manage mother/baby inpatients and any patients on L&D and take outside calls and oversee night intern including seeing all new admissions if possible.

Night Intern: manage all inpatients and do inpatient admissions. Help with newborn resuscitation or deliveries if not busy with inpatients. Will be on L&D with senior if there is a patient there, if they are not required on inpatient floor or in ER for admission.

9024 resident on weekends: Round on mother/baby inpatients one day on weekend (usually Saturdays). They will take sign out from the night senior on these mother/baby inpatients then round with faculty and do any circumcisions/discharges/progress notes then sign out remaining mothers and babies that are inpatient to the senior on call that day. 9024 resident may also choose to help with active laboring patient on L&D briefly if senior on call is the inpatient senior that month, so they can complete rounding on their patients.

Senior resident on call weekend: Manage any patients on L&D after receiving sign out on them from the overnight senior resident. Take outside calls and oversee weekend intern including seeing all new admissions if possible. If their presence is not required on L&D, they will attend inpatient rounds. This resident is also required to round on the mother/baby inpatients on one of the weekend days (usually Sunday) and so will take sign out from night senior on these patients then round with OB staff that morning including doing circumcisions and discharges and progress notes. If the 9024 has rounded that weekend day, the senior resident on call will take sign out from 9024 resident on mother/baby inpatients when 9024 resident is done rounding.

Junior resident on call weekend: Attend inpatient rounds and take sign out from inpatient rounding team after rounds. Manage all inpatients and do inpatient admissions. Help with newborn resuscitation or deliveries if not busy with inpatients. Will be on L&D with senior if there is a patient there, if they are not required on inpatient floor or in ER for admission.
